Volkswagen ID.4 & ID.5 now on sale in Australia, priced from $59,990

Volkswagen Australia has officially introduced the ID.4 and ID.5 electric SUVs, promising a blend of German engineering, advanced technology, and competitive pricing. The ID.4 Pro, for example, starts from $59,990.

Both models arrive with a comprehensive list of standard features, including IQ.LIGHT Matrix LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats with memory and massage, a 12.9-inch infotainment system, and a 360-degree camera. Volkswagen’s Travel Assist package – combining adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, and emergency braking – is also included.

Performance and specifications look good. The ID.4 Pro produces 210kW and 545Nm from its rear-mounted motor, accelerating from 0-100km/h in a claimed 6.7 seconds. The range is rated at up to 544km (WLTP).

Meanwhile, the all-wheel-drive ID.5 GTX produces 250kW with an all-wheel drive twin-motor package, dusting off 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.4 seconds. The range is listed at 522km. Volkswagen Australia director Piergiorgio Minto said:

“As the only brand that has consistently made performance petrol SUVs available to customers, the ID.4 Pro and ID.5 GTX now speak directly to Tiguan customers and SUV customers with BEV and petrol pricing aligned. Whether refuelled or recharged, Volkswagen has a leading SUV available.”
