Kia Australia has confirmed pricing and specifications for its all-electric small SUV, the EV3, ahead of its showroom entry later this month. Three variants are being introduced, all with the same powertrain.
Built on Hyundai-Kia’s E-GMP platform in 400V configuration, the EV3 lineup comprises three trim levels; Air, Earth, and GT-Line. The Air is offered with either a Standard Range or Long Range battery, while Earth and GT-Line variants come with the Long Range battery.
The Standard Range version utilises a 58.3kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering a claimed 436km of WLTP-tested range. The Long Range variants step up to an 81.4kWh battery, with the EV3 Air Long Range achieving a class-leading 604km, while the Earth and GT-Line versions are rated at 563km.
Power is sent to a front-mounted electric motor that produces 150kW and 283Nm, which is slightly below the standards for small electric SUVs at the moment, mostly rated at around 160kW. Nonetheless, it zips off from 0-100km/h in a claimed 7.5 seconds.
A dual-motor AWD ‘GT’ model might be on the horizon, developing 250kW and covering 0-100km/h in the 5.0-seconds range. Kia is yet to officially confirm but reports suggest a debut could happen later this year.
Maximising efficiency is Kia’s latest iPedal 3.0 regenerative braking system, allowing drivers to adjust energy recuperation levels while enabling one-pedal driving. The system retains settings after restarting the vehicle and functions even when reversing.
As for the design, well it looks like a miniature EV5 and EV9, doesn’t it? Cute, modern and with some aggressive and sporty cues, such as black or darkened highlights, at least on the top GT-Line trim. It also incorporates Kia’s signature design language, with Star Map lighting and the brand’s ‘Tiger Face’ front grille.
Inside, a ‘home-like’ concept has influenced the cabin’s layout, with soft-touch materials and a minimalistic approach. The dashboard integrates a suite of high-resolution displays, including a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 5.3-inch climate control screen, and a 12.3-inch infotainment unit. The latest Kia Connect infotainment system supports over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.
Premium features exclusive to the GT-Line include head-up display, panoramic sunroof, and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. The Earth and GT-Line also get a Smart Power Tailgate for added convenience.
Cargo capacity is rated at 460 litres, with an additional 25-litre front storage compartment. Eight exterior colour options are available, while interior trims vary by grade. Cloth seats are standard on Air variants, whereas Earth and GT-Line versions receive artificial leather upholstery, with the Earth offering a choice between Subtle Grey and Light Warm Grey colour schemes.
The new model launches later this month. Prices start from the following (excluding on-road costs), with special drive-away pricing also available:
