Video confirms manual transmission for Genesis X Gran Berlinetta concept

A few weeks ago Genesis unveiled to the world its fully working X Gran Berlinetta concept car at Mount Panorama, as part of the Bathurst 12 Hour weekend. Now, the company has released a touching video to showcase the debut.

The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta concept is the brand’s answer for the Vision Gran Turismo series. This is said to be the first fully working concept in that form, and Genesis selected Bathurst for its global driving debut to show it off – how cool is that?

Those standing next to the track got to hear the stunning machine as racing legend Jacky Ickx drove around. And one thing was clear, a throaty soundtrack and what sounded like a manual transmission. Genesis has previously said the concept features a 799kW V6 that revs to 10,000rpm, which could be the case here.

Well, the video that has just been sent out confirms yes, it does indeed feature a manual transmission. And to us it sounds like a V8. However, some tape on the steering wheel says ‘4500’, likely referring to revs and for Jacky to keep it below 4500rpm. Maybe it can rev to 10,000rpm? Feel free to tell us what you think below.

Before we get too excited about a production version, this manual Genesis X Gran Berlinetta is just a concept at this stage and a showcase of what the brand could do. However, Genesis is entering the FIA World Endurance Championship in the Hypercar category from 2026, so it will have plenty of performance development up its sleeve.

It wouldn’t be completely wrong to suggest that some of the experience and technology formed from racing could eventually make its way to showrooms. This is pretty standard for all carmakers that also compete in motorsports events.

We’d certainly love to see a production version of this. A Genesis supercar. Complete with a front-mounted, high-revving engine and rear-wheel drive, and a manual transmission. And looking as spectacular as this. Keep those fingers crossed.
