Kia has unveiled its new PV5 Passenger and PV5 Cargo electric vans, marking the first dedicated vehicles under its new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy.
Designed for versatility, both models showcase a bold and futuristic design while prioritising flexibility through a modular approach. Full details and specifications are yet to be confirmed, but the main highlight is that new platform.
It’s set to underpin a range of upcoming commercial-style vehicles, ranging from the PV1 city logistics run-around to a big PV7 boasting a long range. As for the PV5, in Passenger form it will be an electric alternative to the Kia Carnival. Hyundai is set to launch a similar product as well, to sit alongside its Staria.
The PV5 was first previewed as a concept at CES 2024, and it aims to “redefine the concepts of space and mobility” in its segment. Kia says the showroom models will be offered in a range of configurations to suit a wide variety of customer needs.
The Passenger variant features a sleek, modern profile with a large glasshouse for improved visibility, while rugged black cladding ties it to Kia’s SUV lineup. The Cargo model, on the other hand, adopts a boxier design optimised for load space, with twin side-opening rear doors for practicality.
Additional PV5 details, along with Kia’s broader PBV strategy, will be revealed at the 2025 Kia EV Day in Spain on February 24. Kia Australia has reportedly said it is keen to introduce all EV products that it can, although the PV5 is not yet locked in.
