BMW Australia adds ‘120’ & ‘220’ variants to 1 & 2 Series range

BMW Australia is expanding its small car lineup for 2025 with the introduction of the 120 and 220 variants, slotting in as mid-tier offerings for the 1 Series hatch and 2 Series Gran Coupe ranges.

Both newcomers feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 150kW and 300Nm, promising a brisk 0-100km/h sprint in 7.2 seconds for the 120 hatch and 7.3 seconds for the slightly bigger/heavier 220 Gran Coupe.

The engine is matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch auto transmission which offers quick and engaging shifts, sending power to a front-wheel drive system. It positions them above the entry-level 118 and 218 but below the range-topping M135 xDrive all-wheel drive.

Standard equipment largely mirrors that of the 118 and 218, though all 1 Series hatch and 2 Series Gran Coupe models produced from March 2025 will gain BMW’s Kidney Iconic Glow grille lighting as a key styling update. Other standard features include a 10.25-inch gauge cluster, 10.7-inch multimedia screen, head-up display, and adaptive M suspension.

Speaking of M, buyers can option up to the M Sport Package Pro, for $3200, adding red M Sport brakes, M Lights Shadow, M seatbelts, an M rear spoiler, and M Sport seats. There’s also a black roof add-on available.

Following its initial unveiling in October, the 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe is launching in Australia in the coming weeks. Deliveries for these new variants will commence in the middle of this year, but the order books are now open. Prices start from the following (excluding on-road costs):

2025 BMW 120 hatch: $60,600
2025 BMW 220 Gran Coupe: $62,900
