2025 BMW iX update on sale in Australia, adds xDrive45 M Sport

BMW Australia is gearing up to introduce the 2025 iX SUV update, bringing a host of upgrades that enhance performance, efficiency, and technology. Set to arrive by mid-2025, the update consists of a new iX xDrive45 M Sport variant, replacing the outgoing iX xDrive40 Sport.

Among the key improvements is a 25 per cent increase in power, a 30 per cent boost in battery capacity, and a 17 per cent faster charging rate, making the iX a more compelling option in the premium EV segment. It also marks the first BMW electric vehicle to integrate silicon carbide semiconductor technology, designed to improve energy efficiency in the powertrain.

The dual-motor setup in the iX xDrive45 M Sport produces 300kW and 700Nm, up from 240kW and 630Nm in the previous 40 Sport model. The extra grunt results in a 0-100km/h time of just 5.1 seconds, shaving a full second off its predecessor’s sprint.

BMW has also reworked the high-voltage battery, increasing its energy capacity to 94.8kWh – a 30 per cent boost – while refining the power electronics for improved efficiency. As a result, driving range has extended to an impressive 602km (WLTP cycle).

Charging speeds have also improved, with the maximum DC fast-charging rate now at 175kW, up from 150kW. AC charging is rated at 22kW. Further refinements in battery pre-conditioning and thermal management ensure better charging efficiency in all conditions.

The updated design includes larger air intakes, aggressive front-end styling, and vertical reflectors at the rear. For the first time, the M Sport package comes standard on the Australian-delivered iX xDrive45, reinforcing the SUV’s dynamic character.

A key visual highlight is the debut of BMW’s Kidney Iconic Glow illuminated grille, which features a distinctive contour lighting effect. The grille itself has been reworked with a more intricate structure of vertical and diagonal lines. Adaptive LED headlights with a fresh design are also standard, featuring cornering lights and new city lights for better visibility.

To complement the updated exterior, BMW has introduced a range of new metallic paint finishes, including Arctic Race Blue, Tanzanite Blue, and Dune Grey, along with BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey. From Q4 2025, Frozen Pure Grey and Space Silver will also be available.

The 2025 iX benefits from a recalibrated chassis and suspension setup, tuned to match the increased power and improved weight distribution. Enhancements include a hydraulic rear axle support bearing for better balance between comfort and sportiness, new wheel bearings and reduced rolling resistance tyres for improved efficiency, adaptive air suspension (optional), BMW’s Integral Active Steering (rear-wheel steering), and some new wheel designs.

Inside, the iX blends progressive luxury with sportier design elements. Standard M Sport features include M multifunction seats with natural leather upholstery, an M leather steering wheel, Dark Silver interior trims, and M pedals. A two-tone dashboard and anthracite headliner add to the high-end feel.

Arriving in showrooms mid-year, the BMW iX xDrive45 M Sport is priced from $142,900 (excluding on-road costs). Further details on additional iX variants for Australia will be announced later.
