2025 Lexus LX ‘Overtrail’ confirmed for Australia, LX 700h considered

Lexus Australia is expanding its flagship SUV lineup with the introduction of the new Overtrail grade for the 2025 Lexus LX. Designed to combine luxury with serious off-road capability, the Overtrail will join the recently-launched GX and its Overtrail variant.

Inspired by the success of the GX Overtrail launched last year, the LX Overtrail offers a bold new option for adventure-seeking buyers looking to tackle rugged terrain, without compromising on refinement.

At the heart of the Overtrail’s off-road upgrades are the front, centre, and rear locking differentials which work with systems such as the Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and Active Height Control functions. Paired with 265/70 R18 Toyo Open Country all-terrain tyres on unique 18-inch alloy wheels, the Overtrail sure does look the business.

The Overtrail also receives a distinctive design update with blacked-out accents, including the spindle grille at the front, wheel arch mouldings, and roof rails, giving it a purposeful yet sporty appearance.

Customers will have the choice of two twin-turbo V6 powertrains; the ‘500d’ 3.3-litre diesel with 227kW and 700Nm, and the LX 600 3.5-litre petrol delivering 305kW and 650Nm. Lexus Australia says it is also considering the twin-turbo V6 LX 700h hybrid option following its global debut last year.

In a statement, the local division said it is “currently evaluating the availability and suitability of this powertrain” for Aussie customers. Lexus Australia CEO John Pappas spoke about the new Overtrail grade, saying:

“Since its introduction to the Lexus Australia range in 1998, the LX has enabled customers to navigate Australia’s tough terrains with unwavering reliability and unparalleled comfort. The LX combines luxurious appointments and thoughtful comfort features with the rugged performance of a full-size luxury SUV, delivering outstanding off-road, towing and hauling capability.”

Details on price and specifications for the 2025 LX range, including the Overtrail grade, will be announced ahead of its local launch in the first half of the year.
