2025 Peugeot 3008 Hybrid on sale in Australia, price from $52,990

Peugeot is introducing the new 3008 Hybrid SUV in Australia, presenting a blend of premium French design, cool interior tech, and a weak hybrid powertrain.

Yep, Peugeot no longer offers the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid package last seen in the 3008 GT Sport, which produced an impressive 222kW of power. Instead, buyers are offered a 1.2-litre turbo three-cylinder engine. Combined with a 15.6kW electric motor, the system produces just 100kW. That makes it one of the least powerful options in its class.

We recently saw this kind of downgrading move with the Peugeot 408 GT. And although it’s not very powerful, it’s actually not that fuel efficient either. According to the specs, the combined cycle rating is 4.9L/100km. For comparison, a standard Toyota RAV4 hybrid AWD offers a consumption rate of 4.8L/100km, and its system produces 160kW.

Peugeot says the hybrid package offers full electric driving capability for urban conditions, which is unique for a hybrid setup; usually electric-only driving is offered in plug-in hybrids or for very short distances only in regular hybrids. The engine is matched to a six-speed dual-clutch auto, offering more driving engagement than a common CVT.

Besides the disappointing performance and economy, the rest of the package looks pretty good. Peugeot is arguably one of the leaders in bespoke Euro design these days, and the latest 3008 proves the point. The new-look front end incorporates embedded claw-style daytime running lights, with stronger panel contours and edges than the previous model, and a sporty coupe-like rear end.

Inside, passengers are presented with a massive 21-inch curved multimedia and instrument display, while the driver gets to play with a new sports steering wheel. A sculpted centre console goes for a minimalist design, with quality materials throughout.

Two variants are being offered in Australia, including the Allure and the GT Premium. Both are front-wheel drive and both offer a 0-100km/h time of 10.2 seconds. The first deliveries are set to commence in the first quarter of 2025. See below for the starting prices (excluding on-road costs):

2025 Peugeot 3008 Hybrid Allure: $52,990
2025 Peugeot 3008 Hybrid GT Premium: $64,990
