2025 Chery KP11 ute concept revealed, shows rugged design

As previously reported by us, Chery is/was developing a ute (pickup truck) and it is set for Australia some time in the next 12 months or so. And here it is, called the 2025 Chery KP11. Images have just surfaced on social media showing the rugged-looking dual-cab concept vehicle.

In terms of the design, the front end predictably channels the Ford Range Raptor with a ‘CHERY’ script across the grille – a one-piece item which takes up most of the surface area. Some narrow LED headlights and fog lights sit on the sides and lower down, with a faux bash plate at the bottom.

Around the side there are definite hints of Ranger in the doorhandles and cabin, with D-Max-inspired taillights and ‘CHERY’ stamped in the tailgate. BF-Goodrich tyres and a tent are showcased on the separate chassis concept ute, to give customers a preview of the potential options.

According to AutoIndustriya, the KP11 will feature a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol engine, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV ute) and range-extended EV (RE-EV) in a similar vein to the new BYD Shark. Power outputs and other details are yet to be found.

The Chery ute is expected to come with a range of off-road-ready features and hardware, such as a locking rear diff, low range and live-axle rear suspension. However, a crossover-based ute, potentially a bit smaller, is also on the cards for the future. Speaking with Driving Enthusiast recently, Chery Australia’s COO, Lucas Harris, said:

“I think from a local market perspective, having a proper – or what Australians would deem a proper ladder-frame chassis – heavy-duty ute is obviously going to be the preference. But I still wonder, and I don’t know the answer, but I wonder if having a more passenger-style ute also has a place.”

The new Chery KP11 – or whatever it ends up being called in Australia – will have to face some tough competition in the world of upcoming and affordable options from China, including the Foton Tunland V7 and V9, JAC T9, LDV T60 Max, GWM Canon and undoubtedly many more.

More details, including local stuff, is expected to be announced in the near future, with market entry some time in 2025. In the meantime, feel free to tell us what you think in the comments below.
