2024 Subaru Forester STI Sport AWD announced for Australia

The Subaru Forester lineup is welcoming a spicy STI Sport AWD special edition in Australia, bringing in… some badges and body trimmings. Yep, we’re disappointed in Subaru as well. It seems like it applies the STI badge to anything and everything these days.

Based on the 2.5i-S, the STI Sport AWD features a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated flat-four engine that produces an un-STI-like 136kW and 239Nm. This is paired to a CVT automatic and all-wheel drive system, with 0-100km/h coming up in an estimated 10.4 seconds (we’ve tested the 2.5i-S in 10.39s).

So, what’s so STI about this one? Well, it has sports suspension. Specifically, “STI-tuned” front and rear dampers, an STI instrument cluster, and an STI badge on the back. That’s pretty much it. It does come with unique dark grey 18-inch alloy wheels though, black side mirrors and body highlights, and a black front grille.

Aside from that, this is merely a top-spec Forester, featuring Nappa leather, red stitching for the steering wheel and instrument cluster, and all of the usual amenities you’d expect on the 2.5i-S, including an 8.0-inch touch-screen media interface offering Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, power-adjustable front seats, and a sunroof.

Forester sales have reached 9273 units so far this year (through August), according to VFACTS. That’s 13.3 per cent down on the same period last year. It sits in seventh spot in its class. Speaking about the limited edition, Scott Lawrence, general manager of Subaru Australia, said:

“With the STI Sport AWD special edition, we’re excited to offer a sportier option that enhances the driving experience while maintaining the Forester’s renowned versatility and reliability. This limited-run edition offers a fresh take on a familiar favourite, providing a special opportunity for consumers to enjoy something truly distinctive.”

The special edition is available for pre-order now, with prices starting from $48,640 (excluding on-road costs). That’s $1500 more than the regular 2.5i-S.
