Ford Mustang GTD spotted at Nurburgring, sounds epic (video)

Ford has been spotted testing the awesome new Mustang GTD around the Nurburgring in Germany, ahead of first deliveries overseas commencing early in 2025.

The Mustang GTD is pretty much the craziest iteration of the iconic muscle car we’ve ever seen. Think of it as like Ford’s answer to vehicles such as the Porsche 911 GT3. It is very much developed for track driving, featuring wild aero components not seen on any other production Mustang.

At the heart of it is a 5.2-litre supercharged V8 engine that belts out around 800hp (about 597kW). It uses dry-sump lubrication to withstand huge g-forces, as well as a titanium exhaust system and eight-speed dual-clutch auto transaxle gearbox at the rear axle. Suffice to say, it should be the quickest street-legal track Mustang ever created.

Ford has previously set a Nurburgring target lap time of under 7 minutes, which is very serious indeed. But it is a serious bit of kit, showcasing a race-like pushrod rear suspension setup with horizontal coilovers, adaptive spool valve dampers, carbon ceramic brakes, and forged aluminium wheels with 325 tyres on the front and 345s on the back.

As you may have guessed, it sounds absolutely incredible. And thanks to the spy video below from trackside at the Nurburgring, by CarSpyVideo, we get to hear the new beast in full. The upshifts, in particularly, are sure to cause goosebumps.

Production of the new model will take place at Ford’s Flat Rock plant in Detroit, before being sent to Markham in Canada for Multimatic to install a number of the race parts. Prices start from approximately US$300,000. Click play below for a preview.
