The Toyota GR Yaris is back on sale in Australia for 2024 as more – but still limited – stock is headed our way. Buyers are urged that these are selling on a ‘first in, first out’ basis.
Yes, Toyota dealers are now accepting orders of the pocket rocket once again as production and supply constraints free up. Since it arrived a few years ago, the GR Yaris has been difficult to get hold of, with demand far exceeding supply.
Since it launched in 2020, the local division has delivered 2591 examples of the GR Yaris, including 1001 examples of the Rallye edition. It is the most popular GR model on sale, ahead of the GR Supra (1171 sales) and GR86 (1609 sales, since 2022 when it shifted to the GR name). The GR Corolla has recorded 788 deliveries and 25 of the Morizo Edition.
The local arm says delivery timing will be based on when orders are placed, starting from July production. Toyota Australia’s vice president of sales and marketing, Sean Hanley, said:
“We always strive for a customer-first approach, so I’m pleased to announce we’re moving to a ‘first in, first out’ method for all GR performance cars. It’s the fairest way given the normalisation of supply of these in-demand sports cars.”
To refresh your memory, the GR Yaris features a record-breaking 1.6-litre turbo three-cylinder engine, producing 200kW and 370Nm. It is the most powerful mainstream producing three-cylinder engine in the world.
The mighty unit, which also powers the larger GR Corolla with power turned up to 221kW, is matched to a six-speed manual only, with a GR-Four four-wheel drive system offering different torque split settings for the driver; 60:40, 50:50, 30:70 (front:rear).
Prices start from $51,390 (excluding on-road costs). Better get in quick, as the order books are likely to fill up fast. Again. See below for the sales split between all GR models since they arrived in Australia.
