2025 Toyota Camry details confirmed for Australia, hybrid-only range

Toyota’s new-generation 2025 Camry sedan is set to hit Australian shores in the latter half of this year, with the complete range shifting to hybrid technology for the first time.

Comprising the Ascent, Ascent Sport, and flagship SL variants, the revamped Camry lineup bids farewell to the SX grade. However, all will come standard with a hybrid powertrain, which means the stand-alone 2.5-litre four-cylinder is being dropped.

Full specs are yet to be confirmed for Australia, but the local arm says it will feature a fifth-genertion 2.5-litre hybrid, promising better performance and fuel economy thanks to lighter components and a more potent electric motor. Overseas specs say 168kW, which would be up from the current Camry‘s 160kW output.

These changes, combined with suspension tweaks, should make the new Camry the most enjoyable yet in terms of driving experience. Safety gets a boost too, with Toyota’s latest active safety tech making its way into every variant.

This overhaul brings in a major cosmetic update as well, showcasing Toyota’s ‘Hammer head’ design language with a pointier nose and smoother contours. It’s also more aerodynamic, with subtle aggressive themes around the lower skirting to provide a sportier look.

The entry-level Ascent will come standard with more equipment compared to its predecessor, including an upgraded multimedia system, additional USB-C ports, and enhanced safety features. Moving up the range, the Ascent Sport introduces a 12.3-inch touch-screen display with built-in navigation and wireless smartphone connectivity.

At the top-tier SL grade, luxury and tech take centre stage with features like a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster display, rear-view mirror camera, and advanced air purification technology. Speaking about the new model, Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia’s vice president of sales and marketing, said:

“Camry is proof that there is still a market in Australia for sedans, especially when they offer the value, efficient performance and good looks buyers are after. Combined with the increase in safety equipment and technology, the space, comfort and reliability of the new Camry range ensures it will continue to resonate with private and fleet buyers alike.”

Local pricing and full specifications will be announced closer to the launch date, penned in for the “second half of 2024”.
