2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class now on sale in Australia, from $131,900

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been announced for Australia for 2024, boasting a range of very advanced technologies that should help reset the standard in its class.

Just one variant is on sale in Australia, the E 300. It’s powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine that generates 190kW and 400Nm. Thanks to 48V mild-hybrid technology with an integrated starter-generator, and a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic, fuel economy is rated at just 7.2L/100km on the combined cycle.

The sleek sedan offers an impressively slippery body design, with an aerodynamics rating of just 0.23Cd. That’s amazingly low for a big sedan. And despite the impressive fuel economy, the stately sedan covers 0-100km/h in a claimed 6.3 seconds.

This isn’t just about the powertrain, though. The latest E-Class boasts a number of class-leading interior features and technologies. As standard you get the MBUX Superscreen setup with a 14.4-inch main screen and 12.3-inch passenger screen, flowing seamlessly across the dash.

There’s also 5G communication capability, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, augmented reality satellite navigation, and a Burmester 4D surround sound system as standard. With 17 speakers, including special loudspeakers in the roof lining, along with 730W of power, the system promises concert-like sound.

Other highlights include Thermatic dual-zone climate control, optional Energising Package Plus with Air-Balance technology, and optional rear axle steering offering up to 4.5 degrees of movement to improve agility in tight spots.

The new model offers up to 5mm of extra headroom over the predecessor, and thanks to a wheelbase that’s stretched by 20mm, rear legroom is increased by 17mm. Rear elbow room has also grown by 25mm. Up at the back the boot is rated at 540L.

Mercedes-Benz Australia says the new model is available to order now, with prices starting from $131,500 (excluding on-road costs). Deliveries commence this week.
