McLaren has revealed the stunning drop-top Spider version of the Artura hybrid supercar as part of the MY2025 update, providing the same thrilling performance but in an open-top experience.
Unveiled at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show, currently underway, the Artura Spider features a one-piece retractable hard-top roof that can be deployed at speeds of up to 50km/h, and takes around 11 seconds to engage. There’s also an electrochromic roof panel available as an option.
With the added hardware the Spider is slightly heavier than the coupe, but by only 62kg. McLaren says with a kerb weight of 1560kg, it is the lightest-weight supercar in its specific class. This is mostly thanks to the MCLA platform underneath (McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture).
According to McLaren, chassis rigidity is the same as the coupe even when the roof is folded down. In fact, most of the added weight is due to the roof mechanism itself rather than added reinforcements like on many other convertibles – the carbon fibre MCLA platform is so strong to begin with.
Behind the cabin is the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 incorporating race-derived dry-sump lubrication, and revisions for MY2025 that lift power up by 15kW. It’s paired with a compact axial flux electric motor, positioned inside the transmission’s bell housing. The e-motor runs off a 7.4kWh battery that provides an electric driving range of 33km.
Combined, the system now produces an astonishing 515kW of power – up from 500kW in the outgoing coupe. As a result, the low-slung drop-top can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.0 seconds, 0-200km/h in 8.4 seconds, and 0-300km/h in 21.6 seconds. The top speed is 330km/h.
McLaren has made some adjustments and tweaks to improve ride and handling for MY25 as well, with changes to damper valving to improve response, and the ethernet-based electrical architecture has been enhanced also to improve response.
Shift speeds from the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission have been revised so it changes gear 25 per cent quicker than before, and the process at which the different drive modes engage have been updated so now it can go between modes 90 per cent faster; Electric, Comfort, Sport and Track. McLaren Automotive CEO Michael Leiters said:
“We have upgraded the powertrain and the chassis systems to deliver more power, more dynamic performance and even higher levels of connection with the driver – without any compromise in everyday driving. And now alongside the new Artura Coupe we have the Artura Spider, a new convertible that has all of these improvements and brings another dimension of open-air McLaren supercar exhilaration to our range.”
McLaren’s Australian department confirms the new model is on sale now from the following prices (excluding on-road costs):
2025 McLaren Artura Coupe: $477,310
2025 McLaren Artura Spider: $525,010
