BMW Group remains best-selling luxury vehicle maker in 2023, record global sales

BMW has posted its annual global sales results for 2023, setting an all-time record high for deliveries, jumping up 6.5 per cent on 2022 efforts. BMW M also reported an impressive 14.5 per cent increase in sales.

The German luxury car group sold 2,555,341 vehicles in 2023, around the world, helping it retain its position as the most popular premium vehicle producer in the world. This includes MINI and Rolls-Royce deliveries, under BMW Group.

As a single brand, BMW shifted 2,253,835 vehicles globally, which was up 7.3 per cent over the previous year. This is an all-time record for the brand. Additionally, as a single brand it also retains its position as best-selling luxury car maker.

Of the total group sales, 376,183 units were made up of fully electric vehicles. That’s a 74.4 per cent increase on the previous year, however, some of that can be attributed to the fact that more and more EVs are being added to the portfolio.

BMW M vehicles made up 202,530 of the total units, representing a 14.3 per cent increase over 2022 sales, while setting a new record for the sub-brand. Interestingly, the BMW i4 M50 was the most popular M model for the year, once again. BMW M also launched the new M2, XM, and M3 Touring in recent times which helped drive sales.

As for MINI deliveries, the brand contributed 295,474 units, representing 0.9 per cent growth over the previous year. It also saw its electric vehicle sales jump, with EVs making up 15.3 per cent of the total sales figure.

Lastly, Rolls-Royce deliveries reached 6032 units, which was the highest in the brand’s history. The figure is only marginally up on 2022 efforts though, by 0.2 per cent.
