Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster ute production commences, lands in Australia soon

Heavy-duty ute/pickup truck buyers will be interested to hear there’s a new model on the horizon; the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster. Production has just commenced in the UK and deliveries in Australia will begin soon.

The Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster is a dual-cab version of the Grenadier wagon, which itself is an all-new model that is obviously inspired by the classic Land Rover Defender in terms of design and function. However, it also features plenty of clever technology and soothing BMW inline-six power.

Going for this ute version gets you 264mm of ground clearance, which is quite good even for the dual-cab ute class, as well as a water wading depth of 800mm. In the back, the tub box is capable of accommodating a 1200m x 800mm Euro pallet “with ease” and the vehicle offers a payload of 760kg.

Under the bonnet, the Quartermaster is offered with a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline-six BMW engine, in either petrol or diesel. The petrol produces 210kW and 450Nm, while the diesel generates 183kW and 550Nm. These are matched to a ZF eight-speed automatic, like what BMW uses as well.

Fuel economy is listed at 10.5L/100km for the diesel and 12.6L/100km for the petrol, according to the Australian Ineos Grenadier website. These figures are based on the NEDC test cycle, running 28 per cent payload.

Like the wagon derivatives, the Quartermaster runs a full ladder-frame chassis system with live axle suspension, a two-speed transfer case, and up to three locking differentials. In other words, it’s a heavy-duty machine ready to take on some rugged demands. Speaking about production kicking offer, Ineos CEO, Lynn Calder, said:

“As part of the final sign-off process I drove a late prototype in both Spain and the African bush and it’s unbeatable off-road, combining the rugged capability and refined performance of the Station Wagon with the enormous load bay that can carry a huge amount of kit and cargo. It’s a great addition to our model line-up.”

Prices in Australia start from $110,000 for the standard version, and move up to $123,000 for the Trialmaster Edition and Fieldmaster Edition. Petrol or diesel, there is no price difference. Local arrival is set to take place “soon after” December – Europe deliveries will commence then. Head over to the Grenadier configurator for more details.
