2024 Toyota GR86 announced for Australia, adds Performance Pack option

Performance Pack available for GTS, adding Brembo brakes and ZF Sachs suspension

Toyota Australia has announced some updates for the launch of the 2024 GR86 sports coupe, including the introduction of a Performance Pack option.

Most crucially, the 2024 Toyota GR86 update brings in a decent boost in safety. Now, the manual transmission models finally get autonomous emergency braking (AEB), along with lane-departure alert, and leading vehicle alert. Automatic high-beam headlights are also added for the manual.

These systems were, up until this point, reserved for the automatic only. Changing to include the manual is a good move and follows the recent announcements from Subaru regarding its identical BRZ twin. Speaking about the update, Toyota Australia’s vice president of sales and marketing, Sean Hanley, said:

“These latest upgrades to our popular and affordable GR86 sports car bring real improvements to both safety and performance – two crucial aspects for buyers. Technologies such as autonomous emergency braking aim to provide buyers with increased peace of mind…”

Also new for the 2024 update is the available option of a Performance Pack. It brings in ZF Sachs dampers that promise a smoother rebound curve and stiffer operation during faster movements, as well as Brembo brakes.

The Brembo package, not that the lightweight sports car was in need of more serious stoppers, includes four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers, nicely finished in red so they instantly stand out.

2024 Toyota GR Corolla - Eclectic Blue

Lastly, Toyota Australia is expanding the colour range for other GR models. The GR Corolla gets Eclectic Blue with blue stitching inside, while the GR Supra is available in Plasma Orange, replacing Silverstone Yellow in the process.

Prices are yet to be announced but as a guide the current, outgoing GR86 GT manual starts from $43,240 (excluding on-road costs).
