Hyundai Australia is launching the 2024 Palisade, adding new Calligraphy and Calligraphy Black Ink variants to the range while enhancing the standard specification across the board.
The Palisade continues in the large SUV segment alongside the Santa Fe. It is bigger than the Santa Fe, making it the more attractive option for large families. No fundamental changes are being introduced for the 2024 update, aside from specification and feature enhancements.
Three variants make up the 2024 range, spanning from the Elite, the new Calligraphy (replacing the Highlander), and the new Calligraphy Black Ink flagship. These are available with either a 3.8-litre petrol V6 or 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder.
The V6 continues to produce a meaty 217kW but a relatively average 355Nm, and this is sent through to a front-wheel drive system only in Australia. That’s after going through an eight-speed automatic.
If you opt for the diesel, power peaks at just 147kW but, perhaps more useful, peak torque is 440Nm. Peak torque is also available from just 1750rpm as opposed to 5200rpm in the V6. The diesel is matched to an eight-speed auto as well but adds all-wheel drive.
Starting with the Elite, Hyundai has added in a rear cargo mat, wood-look trimmings, a heated steering wheel, 8-way power front seats, premium door sill plates, laminated front windows, and melange knit headlining.
Going for the Calligraphy gets you all of the usual high-end items as previously offered in the Highlander, including 12-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat, suede headlining, LED lighting, and a head-up display system. The 2024 update brings in hydrophobic glass for the front doors, acoustic laminated rear glass, and some new touch controls for the air-conditioning.
At the top of the range, the Calligraphy Black Ink features some sinister dark highlights, including front grille, skid plates, roof rails, badges, and black 20-inch alloy wheels. There’s also special suede seat trim and headlining inside.
All variants come with an extensive list of standard safety features, though. Highlights include safe exit assist, adaptive cruise control, multi-collision protection, tyre pressure monitoring, a front centre airbag, and a rear-view camera (surround-view for Calligraphy and up).
All models also boast a 12.3-inch touch-screen system running Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, front and rear zones for the climate control, leather seats, three rows of seats, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
