Video: Porsche 911 Dakar laps Nurburgring (sort off) in sport auto Supertest

Some short-cuts were taken in the hot lap, demonstrating the 911 Dakar's off-road ability

Germany’s sport auto publication has put together another one of its awesome Supertest videos on the Nurburgring, this time sampling the new Porsche 911 Dakar.

The start of the video shows the 911 Dakar’s off-road capability as the driver takes some funny shortcuts around the Nurburgring, including cutting through one of the very old connecting alleys on the almost 100-year-old circuit.

Racing driver and sport auto test driver, Christian Gebhardt, then sets out to see what the new off-road 911 can do around the track. It looks like Gebhardt wrestles with the wheel a bit during the hot lap as the standard all-terrain tyres bite for grip.

To refresh your memory, the Porsche 911 Dakar is based on the Carrera 4 GTS. Power comes from a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine that develops 353kW and 570Nm, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic with all-wheel drive.

The 0-100km/h sprint is achieved in a claimed 3.4 seconds, which is just 0.1 second behind the regular GTS. The top speed is limited to 240km/h, however, as shown in the video. That’s because it wears a set of chunky Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres, with 245/45 on the front and 295/40 on the back.

What was the lap time? Well, since this was a bit of a marketing stunt, the lap time isn’t really legitimate because there were a few short-cuts taken. But the time noted was 7:39.40. Check it out below.

The Porsche 911 Dakar is on sale in Australia priced from $491,400 (before on-roads), and it’s due to arrive here in the second half of 2023.
