Cupra Australia is expanding its electrified lineup with the introduction of the new Leon Ve hatch for 2026, adding a plug-in hybrid option to the updated Leon range for the first time locally.
The new variant slots between the mild-hybrid Leon S and the petrol-powered Leon VZx, while also forming part of a wider PHEV portfolio that now spans the Leon hatch, Leon Sportstourer, Formentor and Terramar ranges.

Built in Spain, the latest Leon Ve adopts Cupra’s second-generation plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor for total outputs of 150kW and 350Nm. The setup enables a claimed 0-100km/h sprint in 7.7 seconds.
A larger 20kWh battery pack is one of the key upgrades over the previous-generation system, helping deliver a claimed electric driving range of up to 123km under WLTP testing.
Charging performance has also improved, with AC charging now supporting up to 11kW, while DC fast-charging capability has been added for quicker public charging stops. Official combined fuel consumption is rated at 1.4L/100km. Cupra Australia head of product Jeff Shafer said:
“What makes this second-generation plug-in hybrid system so compelling is how naturally it integrates into daily life. With more than 100km of electric driving range, many customers will rarely need to use fuel during the week, while still retaining the flexibility and confidence to undertake longer journeys with ease.”

Visually, the Leon Ve adopts the updated styling introduced with the recent Leon facelift, including revised front end treatments, triangular daytime running lights and a full-width rear LED light bar incorporating an illuminated CUPRA badge.
The PHEV variant also gains unique 18-inch ‘Garbi’ alloy wheels and an independent rear suspension setup aimed at improving ride comfort and handling.
Inside, the hatch features Dinamica-trimmed sports bucket seats, a heated Cupra Supersport steering wheel, tri-zone climate control and a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function. There’s also a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and 12.9-inch infotainment system with integrated satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.
Cupra also includes both Mode 2 and Mode 3 charging cables as standard. The wider Leon lineup now consists of the following, with starting prices as below (excluding on-road costs):
2026 Cupra Leon S Hatch (110kW MHEV): $46,990
