It seemed like the early 2000s belonged to Holden. The tearaway success of the VT and VX series of cars was augmented by the sex-appeal of the Monaro, which to this day remains one of the most desirable shapes ever to grace Australian roads.
Tenterfield-based, hearse-making outfit Hillier Engineering had something to say about that, offering $30,000 conversions for AU and BA Falcons, turning them from four-door sedans into a sultry two-door coupe that harkened back to the hardtop of the 1970s.

Although the turret was arguably more suited to the AU’s ‘New Edge’ lines and wedges, today’s ‘For Sale’ find is something incredibly unique and special, proving that you could get a Ford coupe if you really wanted to.
Although it is not stated in the Facebook listing, it’s a fair assumption that this was a Hillier coupe. Dimensions were mostly similar to the sedan, with the same 2793mm wheelbase and length of just over 4.9 metres.
However, the roofline was much shorter at 1400mm and it was wider too at 1892mm. A lengthened front door visually balanced the car to give it similar appeal to the V2 Monaro.

This BA version appears to be XR8-based, but with a custom tan leather interior and lairy green paintjob. Other details include a custom stereo, GT-P style rear wing and green wheels. It almost looks, dare we say, a bit sex-spec.
Ford briefly considered a limited run of factory-backed 300+ coupes but the project never got off the ground.
The seller is asking $40,000 – which is not too unreasonable when you consider the rarity of the car.
