2026 Renault Trafic van on sale in Australia, upgraded 2500kg towing

Looking to buy a new work van? Renault Australia has just announced the MY2026 update for its Trafic van, including bringing in a new nine-speed auto while improving economy and towing capability.

The new model is presented in five main variants, including two short wheelbase (SWB) and three long wheelbase models (LWB). All are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, which now meets Euro 6 emissions regulations, producing 125kW and 380Nm (same as before).

Out is the previous six-speed dual-clutch auto and in is a new nine-speed torque converter auto, which should provide smoother shifts and a more relaxing driving character. A six-speed manual is also available, with front-wheel drive in either case.

With improvements made to pass Euro 6, the official average fuel consumption has been reduced from 6.5L/100km to 6.2L/100km in the best-case-scenario variant, or up to 7.2L/100km for the highest-consuming configuration.

The Trafic uses an 80L fuel tank (excluding the AdBlue tank), which means you’ve got a theoretical average range of 1290km, in 6.2L/100km form. That’s unloaded, but, it gives you an idea of the potential efficiency.

Renault has made some changes to the van to increase its braked towing capacity, taking it from 1630kg to a more substantial 2500kg. That means if you can’t fit your work gear or tools in the back, you should be able to tow a hefty trailer for the rest of your things.

In other areas, the Premium and Lifestyle variants come with adaptive cruise control, and there’s a driver monitoring camera and drowsiness alert system, with an ADAS button allowing quick control of the safety aids.

Going through the trim lines, the entry Pro comes with a passenger work station (for van only), as well as a bulkhead arrangement with a window (van only), along with chrome interior highlights.

Stepping up to the Premium adds a 7.0-inch gauge cluster and LED cabin lights, while the Lifestyle features a fully painted rear bumper bar and body mouldings, along with under-seat storage in the back.
