Mazda Australia has opened pre-orders for the new Mazda 6e for 2026; the brand’s first mainstream battery-electric passenger sedan for local buyers. Two variants are being presented, including the GT and Atenza.
The 6e runs a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 190kW and 290Nm, paired with a 78kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Mazda claims a combined energy consumption of 15.9kWh/100km and a WLTP driving range of up to 560km. A CCS Type 2 port is fitted, with Mazda claiming DC fast-charging from 30 to 80 per cent in as little as 15 minutes.

Riding on a 2895mm wheelbase, the five-seat, five-door liftback features a 14.6-inch central touch-screen and 10.2-inch digital instrument display, plus wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, tri-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 14-speaker Sony audio system. Atenza adds tan leather and synthetic suede trim, with a two-tone leather steering wheel.
Both grades debut a new Mazda 6e app with Bluetooth key capability and remote climate and locking control, while standard safety tech such as Smart Brake Support for turning across traffic (with pedestrian and cyclist detection), front and rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver monitoring system come standard as well.

For Aussie buyers missing local rear-drive metal, the outputs are familiar; 290Nm matches the old VF Commodore Evoke’s 3.0-litre V6 and peak power sits between that car (185kW) and the final FGX Falcon’s base six (195kW).
With GT priced under $50k, the 6e shapes as an affordable, rear-drive alternative in a market dominated by front-drive and SUV offerings. First deliveries are expected to commence in July, and Mazda says the first 300 customers who pre-order a 6e GT will receive a complimentary upgrade to Atenza. See below for the starting price (excluding on-road costs):
2026 Mazda 6e GT: $49,990
2026 Mazda 6e Atenza: $52,990
