Kuhl Racing develops off-road Toyota GR86 ‘Outroad’, with turbo conversion

Now this looks like it would be a bag of fun. A Japanese company called Kuhl Racing has come up with an off-road kit for the Toyota GR86 called Outroad, and chucked on a turbocharger for good measure.

Starting with a base GR86, which is arguably one of the finest driver’s coupes on the market, the team has developed a custom suspension kit which raises the ride height by 76mm (3in).

That should give it enough clearance for some rugged dirt roads and rally stints. Customers can also option for a hydraulic setup that increases the height by a further 41mm if needed, at the touch of a button.

You might also notice the awesome rally-style wheels which wear all-terrain tyres, and a bunch of bash plates underneath to protect the vital organs. A bespoke bodykit is then draped over the top, providing extra clearances and scratch-resistance protection where needed.

After all of that, the GR86 Outroad is then given a turbo conversion. Yep, the 2.4-litre ‘FA24’ is finally given some bigger lungs. It sounds like a mild package as power is boosted by around 37kW.

On top of the standard engine’s 174kW output, that’s 211kW; perfect for a sporty, rear-wheel drive coupe like this. Especially off road. Acceleration figures haven’t been mentioned but we reckon that sort of upgrade would reduce the 0-100km/h time from our best of 6.18 seconds to around 5.5 seconds.

Kuhl Racing is offering this complete kit for existing GR86 owners in Japan, priced from around 4.15 million yen (about AU$40,000). The project will be on display at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon for potential punters to check out. It starts on January 9.
