Toyota has revealed its revamped GAZOO Racing (GR) performance range in Australia, bringing in significant upgrades across the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, and GR86 lineups. The updates bring revised powertrains, new technology, and some design enhancements.
First up, GR Corolla is now offered with an eight-speed automatic option for the first time, expanding beyond the existing six-speed manual variant. Going for the auto, which features close ratios for sporty response, also gets you a launch control system. The auto will be offered on the GR Yaris in 2025.
Both the manual and auto GR Corolla benefit from a torque boost as well, with the 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine now delivering 400Nm between 3250-4600rpm, up from 370Nm. Power remains at 221kW. Functional styling updates include a wider front grille for enhanced cooling, a carbon fibre roof as standard, and new aerodynamic ducts. Weight-saving measures trim 13kg as well.
Likewise, the GR Yaris gets a similar power upgrade, with the turbo three-cylinder engine now producing 221kW and 400Nm – up from 200kW and 370Nm. It retains its manual gearbox for now, but, as mentioned, the eight-speed auto is coming next year.
The GR Yaris lineup now opens with the GT manual priced from $55,490, while the flagship GTS starts at $60,490. Both trims feature enhanced cooling systems, rally-inspired suspension, and new Gravel mode for improved grip on loose surfaces. Inside, a redesigned cockpit lowers the driving position and adds a 12.3-inch digital cluster alongside an updated infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Toyota’s rear-wheel-drive GR86 coupe also benefits from updates for the 2025 model, with improved suspension tuning and steering responsiveness. Three variants make up the range, from the GT, GTS and a Limited Edition.
The Limited Edition stands out with a Forest Shadow paint finish, bronze alloy wheels, and a sporty Dynamic Performance Pack featuring Brembo brakes and ZF Sachs dampers. Toyota Australia vice president of sales and marketing, Sean Hanley, said:
“When the GR brand launched in Australia five years ago with the GR Supra, it gave Toyota the opportunity to use its extensive learnings from motorsport experience and create exciting road-going cars.
“Since then, the GR Yaris, second-generation GR86 and GR Corolla have expanded the appeal of the GAZOO Racing family, offering enthusiasts exhilarating performance and driving engagement that belies the pricetag of the vehicle.”
