Stunning BMW Skytop roadster going into limited production

BMW has announced plans to bring the stunning BMW Skytop roadster into limited production, following overwhelming praise for the design study which was revealed at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2024.

Just 50 units of this exclusive two-seater will be built, making it one of the rarest models in the brand’s lineup. This latest addition to BMW’s special-edition series continues the tradition set by the BMW 3.0 CSL, which was also limited to 50 units.

The Skytop is powered by BMW’s most potent V8, a 4.4-litre twin-turbo unit producing 460kW, paired with an eight-speed auto transmission. With xDrive all-wheel drive, the roadster can do the 0-100km/h dash in around 3.3 seconds, making it one of the quickest showroom BMWs ever.

The design of the BMW Skytop echoes the elegance of iconic BMW roadsters like the BMW 507 and Z8, with sleek, sculpted lines and a dynamic stance. It features a classic long and pouncing bonnet and a distinctive shark-nose front, flowing down to a pinched rear end. Modern touches include an illuminated kidney grille, slim LED headlights, and intricately designed light-alloy wheels, all contributing to its refined, futuristic aesthetic.

Inside, the Skytop is crafted with fine materials, including brown leather seats with brogue-style accents and crystal details. The retractable roof is finished in synthetic leather and stows neatly behind the cabin and into the boot. The roadster also includes premium features like soft-close doors, a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, and BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a full-colour head-up display.

Unfortunately for interested buyers, all 50 examples of the Skytop have been sold out. No word on pricing, but we suspect heaps.
