Genesis reveals 1148kW hybrid ‘X Gran Racer VGT’ concept at Busan Mobility Show

Genesis has unveiled a striking new concept called the X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo (VGT) concept at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show (BIMOS), perhaps hinting at the brand’s high-performance luxury ambitions.

The concept is based on the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept, and is part of Genesis’s Magma program. It makes its debut alongside the redesigned Electrified G80 and the Neolun Concept, first revealed in New York.

The X Gran Racer VGT Concept is a visual overload, designed with enhanced ground effects and active aerodynamic flaps to optimise airflow and stability. Its aggressive aesthetic is underscored by the twin-split Crest Grille headlights, large front splitter, rear diffuser, and sharp canards.

This emphasis on aerodynamics is paired with a mid-engine layout, long wheelbase, and short front overhangs, like a GT racing car.

Underneath, the concept is no slouch. It features a race-spec Lambda II V6 engine coupled with an electric supercharger, producing 649kW (870hp) and 1071Nm alone. It also revs to 10,000rpm. But, that’s obviously not enough. So it also features an electric motor hybrid system.

A front-mounted electric motor generates 500kW and 305Nm, adding to the V6 to offer a combined output of 1148kW and 1425Nm. Acceleration figures haven’t been mentioned but you can kind of assume it’s going to be a quick son of a bitch.

Inside, the concept presents a minimalistic ‘Beauty of White Space’ design philosophy. The interior is stripped down to essentials, with exposed structural elements to minimise weight and maximise performance.

The Digital Panorama Interface integrates vital information into a single display, aimed at reducing distractions and enhancing the driver’s focus.

The event also showcased the redesigned Electrified G80, making its Korean debut after its premiere in Beijing, and the Neolun Concept, a full-size electric SUV featuring innovative tech like deleted B-pillars, coach doors and swivelling front seats.

The X Gran Racer VGT Concept might not hit the showrooms any time soon, but gamers will be able to download a digital version of the car on Sony PlayStation and its Gran Turismo series soon.
