Video: Electric drill gets Toyan V8 engine conversion, revs to 12,500rpm

This is the ultimate tool for the mancave or toolshed

Getting sick and tired of your pissy little 18V cordless drill burning out whenever you hit some hard stuff? You need a V8 drill. Yep, an actual V8-powered drill.

YouTube channel Lets Learn Something has posted up an interesting – and drool-inducing (depending on your tastes) – video showing how to build yourself a V8 drill. Now, obviously we’re not talking about an LS1 or Coyote V8 here.

V8 electric drill Toyan - working

Instead, the guys used what is known as the world’s smallest V8 engine; the Toyan V8. It’s a 28cc – or 0.028L, if that’s your language – four-stroke V8 designed for epic remote-control cars and other toys.

The engine in standard trim revs to about 12,500rpm and produces around 3.2kW (4.3hp).  But there are supercharger kits available too if that’s not enough. Mounted in an electric drill, this is obviously plenty of power to cut through anything from steel to thick perspex.

It might look like a typical battery-powered drill, but the video shows it actually features a custom fibreglass ‘battery’ area which houses the starter motor and button. There’s also a custom radiator, overflow tank and fuel tank.

Most importantly, the drill remains a drill and can actually drill through stuff. Check it out in the video below.
