2024 Jeep Wrangler update for Australia adds 2.0L turbo engine

Jeep Australia is finally bringing in a pretty major update for the 2024 Wrangler, introducing a 2.0-litre turbo engine for the first time. Some changes have been made to the lineup, with boosted safety.

The new lineup consists of four different variants, starting with a new Sport S four-door model that replaces the Night Eagle, as well as Overland four-door, and Rubicon four- and two-door styles. All showcase a slightly facelifted design with a new front grille and fresh alloy wheel themes.

All are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder that produces 200kW and 400Nm. That’s slightly down on the 209kW petrol V6 currently offered, but, perhaps more importantly in a vehicle like this, torque is lifted from 347Nm to 400Nm.

Jeep has made various revisions to help improve practicality and quality, applying measures such as relocating the antenna to within the windscreen, and applied changes to improve noise, vibration and harshness levels. All feature a 12.3-inch touch-screen running Uconnect 5, and all come with a ‘Gorilla glass’ windscreen and newly-added side curtain airbags.

Going for the Overland adds an anti-spin Dana M220 rear axle, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, 18-inch wheels (up from 17s on the Sport S), premium McKinley seats, and a soft spare wheel cover. The Rubicon then steps things up for serious off-road enthusiasts.

It comes with heavy-duty Dana 44 full-floating rear axles, 17-inch wheels wearing chunky off-road tyres, a Rock-Trac 4×4 system with a 4:1 low range ratio, Tru-Lok front and rear differentials, and an electronic stabiliser bar disconnect system for the front. It also features Nappa leather trim.

Some changes have been made to spruce up the interior, with enhanced voice-recognition across the board, a refined instrument cluster and bezels, an added integrated accessory rail on the dash, and new hard seat-back panels to improve practicality.

In terms of safety, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler comes with side curtain airbags in the front and back, front and side seat airbags in the front, a rear seat reminder system, rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, and autonomous emergency braking.

Jeep Australia says the new model is scheduled to arrive in local showrooms in April. Prices are yet to be announced.
