2026 BYD Seal 6 sedan & Touring wagon on sale in Australia

BYD has just confirmed it is introducing the Seal 6 sedan and Seal 6 Touring wagon in Australia, featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a total projected range of up to 1400km.

The new models feature BYD’s latest DM 5.0 Super hybrid plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 19kWh battery and electric motor assist system. With a full charge, buyers are offered 55km of electric driving range.

Perhaps the most interesting bit about this news is that it will launch in wagon form. Station wagons have been forgotten in this market, as SUVs and crossovers (and utes) take over. BYD says the Touring wagon offers a 670L boot that expands to 1535L with the rear seats folded.

Inside, passengers are treated to a 12.8-inch touch-screen interface, with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster, and a suite of active safety systems such as DiPilot Level 2 cruise control driving assistance. BYD Australia COO Stephen Collions said:

“The Seal 6 Sedan and Seal 6 Touring continues the BYD commitment to offer Australians a range of advanced electric and intelligent plug-in vehicles that suits their needs and lifestyles. We will continue to grow our local lineup as we help all Australians transition to cleaner, more efficient mobility without sacrificing performance, practicality or value.”

The Seal 6 runs on a 2790mm wheelbase, but is 80mm shorter overall than the existing Seal sedan and 5mm wider. It’s also a plug-in hybrid rather than the existing Seal which is fully electric only.

BYD says the new models officially go on sale on April 9, with prices starting from the following (excluding on-road costs):

2026 BYD Seal 6 Essential sedan: $34,990
2026 BYD Seal 6 Premium Touring: $39,990
