The all-new 2024 MG3 hybrid is set for local launch in June, but reports of conventional, non-hybrid versions have been circulating since the car’s global reveal at Geneva in February.
One version we likely won’t see is this very bare-bones Mexican market model that has popped up on the Base Models Only Facebook page.
This fascinating specimen features tiny hubcaps, measuring 15 inches in diameter, but otherwise appears pretty similar to the model we’ll be seeing shortly on Australian roads.
It’s inside where things get weird, with three basic HVAC controls and a five-speed manual gear selector (which looks like a rubber chicken). There is no infotainment screen at all — all of the stereo functionality is apparently housed within the instrument screen, controlled by the steering wheel buttons.
This is a similar approach to the Dacia Logan as a cost-cutting measure. Occupants are treated to two speakers, four airbags… and not much else.
