2026 Subaru Solterra update announced; boosted to 252kW, 566km range

Subaru has announced a pretty major update for its Solterra electric SUV, bringing more power, longer range and sharper pricing for the 2026 model year. The refreshed lineup now starts from $63,990 before on-road costs, down from the outgoing $69,990 starting price.

Power from the dual-motor setup climbs to 252kW, up from just 160kW in the previous model, while a new 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery (up from 71.4kWh) extends the driving range to 566km on the WLTP cycle (up from 485km). The upgrades are supported by a switch to a 22kW onboard AC charger, doubling the previous charging capability and allowing faster top-ups at compatible stations.

Underneath, the latest version of Subaru’s e-Subaru Global Platform brings refinements to ride comfort, cabin quietness and all-wheel-drive response. The Solterra continues to offer 212mm of ground clearance, dual-mode X-Mode and Drive Mode Select systems, while the braked towing capacity has doubled to 1500kg, improving practicality for touring and adventure use.

Inside, the cabin introduces a new 14-inch central display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual wireless phone chargers, and an expanded ambient lighting package offering 64 colour options. The Touring variant adds a Harman Kardon sound system and the brand’s Advanced Park Assist feature. Subaru says further improvements to suspension and acoustic insulation contribute to a calmer, more refined drive.

Externally, the MY26 Solterra adopts revised bumpers, updated LED lighting and redesigned alloy wheels for a more athletic appearance. Safety remains a core focus, with Subaru’s latest Safety Sense suite and Vision Assist technologies included across the range. Scott Lawrence, general manager of Subaru Australia, said:

“It stays true to Subaru capability, safety and reliability, with genuine all-wheel drive confidence and it marks an exciting start to a run of new Subaru product coming to Australia.”

The updated Subaru Solterra is available to order now, backed by a five-year vehicle warranty and eight-year battery warranty. First deliveries are expected to commence in 2025 with prices starting from the following (excluding on-road costs):

2026 Subaru Solterra AWD: $63,990
2026 Subaru Solterra AWD Touring: $69,990
