All-new 2026 Nissan Navara previewed, debuts November 19 (video)

Nissan has confirmed it will be unveiling its next-generation 2026 Navara on November 19, and has sent out a teaser which seems to confirm there will be a new PRO-4X in the range.

The new model is set to be based on the same platform and fundamentals as the latest Mitsubishi Triton, falling under the same parent company. With that, expect the same 2.4-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel as the new Triton, at least for higher grade levels. It’ll probably switch to a six-speed auto as well, rather than Nissan’s existing seven-speed.

In the teaser Nissan is reminding us that the Navara has a long history in Australia. In fact, it’ll be celebrating its 40th anniversary next year, following the nameplate’s initial introduction here in 1986. Andrew Humberstone, managing director, Nissan Oceania, said:

“For nearly 40 years, Navara has been writing its story alongside Australia’s own evolution. Every generation has learned from the previous one, and every Australian customer has taught us something about what matters most in a ute.”

Towards the end of the teaser video we get a quick glimpse of the design, which does seem to borrow the front end and headlight layout from the Triton. Nissan will want to go its own way in as many areas as possible, so expect unique trimmings, model grades, alloy wheels and so on. But the body or at least the main torso looks like it will carry over from the Triton.

Inside is where will are likely to see the biggest differences, with unique seats and dash trimmings, or potentially a semi-redesigned cabin altogether. A flagship PRO-4X trim level is also confirmed in the teaser, and is set to feature things like contrast stitching, sporty seats and various contrasting highlights on the outside.

Sales of the Navara 4×4 have been dwindling in recent times, with a year-to-date standing of 5881 units as of the end of September. According to VFACTS figures, that number is down 17.5 per cent on the same nine-month period in 2024. It sits in eighth spot in the 4×4 class.

The new model could spice things up a bit and help drive sales back up to where they were a few years ago. For example, in 2022 Nissan sold 7333 4×4 Navaras up to and through September of that year. However, today’s market is much busier, with more competition than ever before.

We’ll have to wait until the full reveal to understand what’s in store exactly. The covers are scheduled to come off on November 19. Stay tuned.
