New BMW M2 CS laps Nurburgring in 7:25.5 (video)

The new BMW M2 CS has set a Nurburgring lap time of 7:25.5, cementing its position as the quickest production car in the high-performance compact class.

If there was any small car that could achieve a new record it’s the M2 CS. This is a hardcore version of the M2 sports coupe, featuring a range of enhancements and revisions to improve track performance and speed.

Power comes from the ‘S58’ 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six as seen in the larger and heavier M3 and M4, only power is rated at 390kW here, with 650Nm. This is matched to an eight-speed auto transmission with rear-wheel drive.

Various weight reduction measures are applied, with more carbon fibre than the regular M2 contributing to a fairly modest reduction of about 30kg. It also comes with adaptive M suspension, CS engine mounts, and M Compound brakes.

With a lap time of just 7:25.5, it’s not far off the quickest BMW production car to ever lap the circuit; the M4 CSL. It lapped in 7:18.137. The man behind the wheel, driver and development engineer at BMW, Jorg Weidinger, beat the previous segment record by around eight seconds.

BMW M has a workshop set up right near the Nurburgring and uses the track to develop and hone every vehicle it sells. In fact, BMW M and the Nurburgring have held a partnership for over 25 years. Franciscus van Meel, the managing director of BMW M, spoke about the feat, saying:

“The BMW M2 CS has achieved a significant milestone with its lap time of 7:25.5 minutes on the Nordschleife, showcasing the potential for combining performance, technology and exceptional driving dynamics into a single vehicle. We are proud that the M2 CS has once again set a new benchmark in the compact car class with this lap time.”

The new M2 CS is on sale in Australia priced from $172,900 (excluding on-roads). Local deliveries are scheduled to commence late in 2025. Check out the video below for the full on-board lap.
