2026 BMW M2 Racing car ready for final test at Nurburgring 24hr

BMW M Motorsport will give its new M2 Racing one final test before its 2026 customer racing debut, with an example set to contest the gruelling 24 Hours of Nurburgring in June.

The M2 racer will be entered in the SP3T class and piloted by a factory-backed lineup that includes BMW M works drivers Ugo de Wilde, Charles Weerts, and Jens Klingmann, along with seasoned Nordschleife competitor and motorsport journalist Michael Bräutigam.

The effort is being run by FK Performance Motorsport, which also managed the car’s first public outing in the 2024 Nurburgring Endurance Series. Björn Lellmann, head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport, said:

“For one final time, our works drivers will collect data and impressions to help us deliver a car to our customers that is as well-prepared as possible. The Eifel endurance race is the ultimate test of strength.”

Having already completed more than 30,000km of testing, this marks the final major milestone before the car is offered to BMW M Motorsport customer teams as a new entry point into professional GT racing. It’s expected to appeal to amateur and aspiring drivers alike thanks to its balance of performance, accessibility, and durability.

Klingmann, who has been involved in the project since the early development stages, will bring his deep knowledge of the platform to the demanding 24-hour event. Weerts, a 2024 podium finisher in the main GT3 class, steps down from his usual GT3 duties to contribute to the M2 Racing’s endurance evaluation.

De Wilde, freshly qualified for the Nordschleife, will make his debut in the 24-hour race. Bräutigam adds another layer of insight with his dual perspective as a racer and journalist.

Ahead of the main event, the team will take part in the Nurburgring Qualifiers this weekend, using it as a final tune-up. The 2025 Nurburgring 24-hour event takes place on June 21-22.
