2026 Nissan Frontier Pro PHEV revealed, 300kW/800Nm

As previewed, Nissan has pulled the covers off its first-ever electrified ute, with the all-new 2026 Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid (PHEV). It made its debut at Auto Shanghai 2025.

Blending modern design with serious dual-purpose credentials, the new model headlines Nissan’s expanding push into electrified vehicles. In fact, it is one of nine electrified models Nissan is planing to introduce in China by mid-2027.

Styled around the theme of ‘Rugged Tech’, the Frontier Pro sports a bold yet futuristic look, with LED light bars along the bonnet and an illuminated Nissan logo front and centre. Designers paid tribute to the 1980s D21 hardbody pickup, with inspiration drawn from its three-slot bonnet openings and reinterpreting the theme with modern LED lighting.

Underneath it all, the new Frontier PHEV ute pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor system, with all-wheel drive, belting out over 300kW and up to 800Nm. A range of drive modes – including Hybrid, Pure Electric, Performance, and Snow – aim to give drivers the flexibility to switch between city cruising and off-road trekking. The claimed electric range sits at 135km.

A rear diff lock helps out in more demanding conditions, and the setup is supported by a five-link rear suspension layout for better on-road comfort while still maintaining comprehensive off-road wheel control. It also offers a 3500kg towing capacity.

Inside you’ll find a 14.6-inch central display, 10-inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic glass roof, and available seat massage, bringing SUV-like refinement to the cabin. V2L capability is also included, allowing users to extract up to 6kW of power from the battery to charge devices or power equipment.

The Frontier Pro will be built in collaboration with Zhengzhou Nissan (ZNA), with exports to select global markets to be confirmed at a later date. Australia could be on the cards, but nothing is official as yet.
