2025 MG S5 EV announced for Australia, price from $40,490

MG Motor Australia has officially announced pricing and availability for its new MG S5 EV range, which is essentially the replacement to the old ZS EV. Deliveries for the new model are set to begin in May.

Four variants make up the range, spread across two battery sizes; the entry-level Excite with a 49kWh battery (also available in Essence trim), and the long range 62kWh battery (available in Excite and Essence as well). All variants are propelled by a 125kW/250Nm rear electric motor with rear-wheel drive, sharing key underpinnings with the MG4, including the brand’s low-profile Modular Scalable Platform.

Early adopters are being incentivised with a limited bonus. MG is offering a complimentary 7kW home charger (valued at $1199) to the first 500 customers who place a $500 refundable deposit. The unit, known as the MG Charge Hub, enables home charging and will be supplied when the vehicle is collected.

The MG S5 EV was first revealed at the Melbourne Motor Show earlier this month. It offers up to 515km of range on the NEDC cycle in long-range form, and fast-charging capability from 30 to 80 per cent in under 20 minutes.

Standard equipment highlights include wireless Apple CarPlay, a 12.8-inch infotainment display running MG’s latest software, and a powered tailgate on the higher-spec Essence variant. The battery pack sits 110mm tall, improving cabin space and packaging.

MG says the S5 EV is designed to deliver strong value and practicality for Australian families, with further new models set to join its expanding local lineup later in 2025, as well as the new vehicles from MG’s luxury sub-brand, IM Motors, with the IM5 and IM6.

The new fully electric S5 goes on sale from the following prices (drive-away). All are covered by MG’s 10-year/250,000km vehicle warranty.
