2025 Audi RS 3 sets new Nurburgring lap record, 7:33

Audi’s upcoming 2025 RS 3 has set a new lap record for its class at the Nurburgring, Nordschleife, posting a time of 7:33.123 in pre-production prototype form.

The achievement was piloted by Audi Sport’s Frank Stippler, shattering the previous record for small cars by more than five seconds, cementing the RS 3’s status as the fastest in its class. A big part of the success is the new RS 3’s optimised chassis setup and handling. Stippler explains:

“The new RS 3 turns in more willingly at corner entry thanks to fine-tuning – including brake torque vectoring – which allows the vehicle to be positioned earlier and better for corner exit from the apex, at the latest. The result is a lower steering angle from apex to corner exit, which leads to less friction and earlier acceleration, allowing you to carry more momentum and speed onto each subsequent straight.”

The car’s dynamics are the result of several interconnected systems. The torque splitter provides fully variable torque distribution between the rear wheels, while electronic stabilisation control and wheel-selective torque control (brake torque vectoring) ensures precise handling.

The RS sports suspension, with optional adaptive dampers, further enhances the driving performance. Audi’s modular vehicle dynamics controller now integrates data from all lateral dynamics components with increased sensitivity, thanks to an improved algorithm.

Under the bonnet, the RS 3 continues with the legendary 2.5 TFSI turbo five-cylinder engine, delivering 294kW and 500Nm. Paired with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tires, a 19-inch ceramic brake system, and the finely-tuned RS sports suspension, this powertrain pushes the RS 3’s capabilities even further. Its signature 1-2-4-5-3 firing sequence provides that distinctive Group B rally roar.

The production model of the new RS 3 is set to be available for order from the end of August. Aussie details are yet to be confirmed. The current model is priced from $96,800 for the Sportback hatch and from $99,300 for the sedan (excluding on-roads).
