2026 Mazda CX-60 gets 2.5L petrol RWD option in Australia

Mazda Australia is bringing in a new entry level ‘G25’ CX-60 featuring the familiar 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder engine. It becomes the cheapest variant on sale.

While most CX-60 variants are powered by an inline-six engine, petrol or diesel (except the PHEV), this new four-cylinder option does seem fairly weak. It produces 138kW and 250Nm, matched to an eight-speed automatic.

Interestingly, this package is rear-wheel drive, and in fact it’s the first rear-wheel drive application for the 2.5L four-cylinder. However, yes, the outputs make it one of the least powerful options in the class as well.

Does that matter? Well, prices start from just $44,240, which makes it one of the most affordable premium mid-size SUVs on the market (keeping in mind the CX-60 officially rivals the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the like).

Mazda is offering three trim levels with the ‘G25’ engine, including Pure, Evolve and Touring. All are two-wheel drive, and all offer a fuel consumption average of 7.5L/100km. That’s not bad for a petrol-only model in this class.

In base spec Pure form you get a 10.25-inch touch-screen display and 7.0-inch TFT instrument cluster, while all others get a 12.3-inch cluster. The Pure also comes with an eight-speaker sound system, cloth trim, dual-zone climate control, and LED headlights.

This could be an appealing option for those looking to get into the premium SUV market without facing ridiculously high prices. Managing director at Mazda Australia, Vinesh Bhindi, said:

“Mazda Australia has always prioritised providing unrivalled value and choice for our consumers, and the addition of the G25 to the CX-60 range is no exception. A proven powerplant, elegant KODO design and a suite of standard inclusions at an extremely compelling price point fully enhance consumer accessibility”.
