2026 Toyota GR Corolla update confirmed for Australia

Toyota has confirmed a series of updates for its GR Corolla hot hatch for 2026, aimed at improving handling, cooling performance, and cabin refinement. The updated model is due to arrive in Australia early next year.  This comes not long after Toyota announced some pretty big updates earlier this year, bringing in an eight-speed auto option and boosting torque to 400Nm.

This time, engineers have focused on reinforcing chassis rigidity and optimising engine durability during demanding driving. Structural adhesive throughout the body has been increased by 74 per cent, strengthening the underbody and rear sections to manage “intense vertical and lateral G-forces”. The result, Toyota says, is improved connection between driver and machine, not only at the limit but also in everyday driving.

A new secondary intake system has been introduced, incorporating a cool air duct that channels fresh air from the grille into the intake at high engine speeds. The setup helps stabilise intake temperatures during extended performance driving, ensuring the 1.6-litre turbo three-cylinder engine can maintain consistent power delivery.

Inside, the GR Corolla gains a revised audio suite featuring a nine-speaker JBL setup with a new subwoofer integrated into the boot for a deeper and clearer sound experience. Acoustic refinement continues with recalibrated Active Noise Control, which cancels out unwanted noise using sound-wave technology, while a new Active Sound Control function amplifies the car’s natural exhaust and engine tone in line with throttle input and selected drive mode (it can be switched off).

Power continues to come from the 221kW/400Nm turbo three-cylinder engine, paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a rally-inspired GR-Four 4WD system with front and rear limited-slip differentials.

Pricing and full specifications will be announced closer to launch. The current model starts from $67,990.
