The 2024 Porsche Macan Electric (EV) will debut later this year featuring a 450kW powertrain supported by an 800V electrical system.
We spotted some prototype test mules in Germany recently, including on the public autobahn and around the Nurburgring. It’s understood a full debut is just around the corner.
The new model will ride on VW Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) layout, which will also be used for various VW Group models including the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron SUV.
With this, Porsche will be presenting a 115kWh battery pack for the ‘long-range’ Macan EV, according to a CAR report, allowing a recharging rate of up to 270kW. Full-charge range figures are yet to be confirmed, but up to 680km is being reported.
In terms of the design, the electric Macan will take the shape of a coupe-style profile. This is a first for the junior SUV, following in the footsteps of the Cayenne Coupe.
These prototypes feature a fake window dress trim in chrome, which gives off the impressive of a conventional wagon format. However, take a closer look and you’ll see it is purely there to conceal the D-pillar design. Some fake exhausts also poke out from the back.
According to reports, the new model will debut a two-valve damper system, with independent control via Porsche’s Active Suspension Management (PASM) program. This is expected to push the boundaries in dynamics and capability for driving enthusiasts.
Also helping here, the Macan EV is set to feature, at least as an option, rear-wheel steering like the Cayenne Coupe (Turbo GT). It will apparently provide up to 5 degrees of steering angle to help enhanced low-speed agility and high-speed stability.
There’s also talk of a locking rear differential system to further boost cornering ability and traction. Speaking of the rear axle, there has been talk of an entry model coming in, dubbed the Macan E, featuring a single, rear-axle electric motor.
The Porsche Macan electric will be sold alongside the petrol siblings for a certain overlapping period. The electric model is set to bring back the ‘Macan Turbo’ badge, which was removed from the current Macan lineup (the GTS is the current flagship). A ‘Macan 4S’ could sit in the middle.
It’s understood a full debut will take place in November at the 2023 Los Angeles auto show – as highlighted in our top 10 SUVs coming in 2024 feature.
